I think these images of the glorious model, Naomi Shimada, cooking up a storm are just fabulous. This girl loves her food (and marmite) and for that, I love her. Also quite envious of her extensive collection of novelty kitchenware. Her motto is 'eat food, be happy'. Amen to that.

My boyfriend is the Nigella of the couple but one of my new year's resolutions is to become a dab hand in the kitchen. Although I have been enjoying great success with my tofu scrambles lately. Tasty, easy and guilt-free.

Incidentally, how great is Sous-Style! Whilst devouring all the 'male monday' specials and snooping through the 'room anatomy' features, I stumbled across their manifesto. Its refreshing honesty struck such a chord that I think you lot should check it out too.

One of the reasons that posts have been few and far between recently is that I've been interning down in London. As a peace-offering, and to show you that I have actually been doing something constructive in my time away from Well La-Dee-Da, I thought I'd share one of the pieces I've written for the Vintage Seekers' magazine. So without further ado, here is my profile on the inimtable Francisco Costa.

After Gisele Bündchen, he's probably Brazil's most famous fashion export. VS looks at the life and career of a Future Vintage fashion talent.

Brazilian-born Francisco Costa has been at the helm of Calvin Klein for the past nine years as the Creative Director of Womenswear, a feat made all the more incredible by the fact that he couldn’t speak a word of English when he emigrated to America aged 20.

Born on 10 May 1961 in the small Brazilian town of Guarani, to a ranch-owner father and an apparel factory-manager mother, Costa recalls fond memories of playing with the fabrics from his mother’s shop as a child and he credits her with setting him on his eventual career path. Following her death in 1981, he moved to New York and took an evening class at the Fashion Institute of Technology while studying English as a second language at Hunter College.

Costa started out at the garment company He-Ro Group, which made dresses for Bill Blass and Oscar de la Renta. Soon he was working for the latter and within two years had launched a more affordable line called Oscar de la Renta Pink Label. This propelled him to Oscar’s attention, who invited him to work in the studio. In 1998, he was headhunted by Gucci and despite not having prepared his portfolio in time for the interview, he was hired as Tom Ford’s assistant. He became the womenswear creative director at Calvin Klein in 2003, having only worked there for a year. From behind the scenes, he was thrust into the spotlight of the industry’s most critical eyes.

In a charming twist of fate, Costa divulged that he sought the advice of a clairvoyant some 15 years ago who told him that he would one day become creative director at Calvin Klein. He never confided this to anybody for fear of it being a false prediction.

His meteoric rise to the top wasn’t entirely plain sailing, however. His first year was plagued with production struggles including a newly reduced staff and the outsourcing of samples to Italy.

His acceptance of the mantle of one of fashion’s most coveted roles heralded a new era in Calvin Klein, taking its minimalist heritage and added an earthy, sensual slant. With an emphasis on freedom in dress achieved by clean and simple designs, he has modernised while remaining true to the traditionally simple Calvin Klein aesthetic.

In a candid admission last year, he rejected the ‘waif’ era, declaring that his designs look better on a more diverse casting of models because it affords a truer reflection of the customer. He has recently spoken of his desire to dress our very own Duchess of Cambridge, describing her as “very Calvin when you think about it”.

He favours sober, modest runway presentations believing that the clothes speak louder in a bare, open space. Supermodel Lara Stone is Costa's muse du jour, having described her as the perfect embodiment of the Calvin Klein woman. The Dutch beauty's size eight figure is considered curvy by industry standards, yet Costa has said that "it's time for that persona and for that body".

The lack of Latin influence in his work has surprised some who believed his Brazilian heritage would feature heavily in his work. Instead, Costa seeks inspiration from the American West and the desert, for its vast starkness. This is apparent in his understated runway presentations, which favour a blank canvas rather than elaborate catwalk gimmicks so that the clothes can speak for themselves.

Costa received several of the highest accolades available to fashion designers, winning the CFDA award for womenswear in 2006 and 2008, and the Cooper-Hewitt National Fashion Design Award in 2009. Ever modest, he claims he owes his success to his rigorous work ethic: “Just work, work, work”.

The festive period is the one time of year where over-consumption, intoxication and hibernation are not only permitted but positively encouraged. So whilst I was indulging in these thoroughly festive pursuits yesterday, wading through the remaining tins of otherwise discarded Roses, sipping disdainfully on my glass of wine and watching none other than the early 90s classic My Cousin Vinny, I was struck by Marisa Tomei's character's utterly fabulous style.

Lashings of blood red lipstick, a shoulder-pads bonanza, her wild bouffant and a penchant for eye-wateringly tight ensembles, all coupled with a no-bullshit attitude. Wow.

Happy New Year

2011 was a truly blessed year. In many ways, one of the most pivotal and challenging of my life, paved with all the traditional milestones on the often bewildering road to adulthood. I completed my degree and, like plenty other graduates, moved back home which could have been a backwards step but instead has been embraced as an opportunity to work out what I want and where I want to be, which in itself has been a surprise. I also spent the most enlightening and awesome three months discovering another part of this sweet wide world.

May 2012 bring you inspiration, fulfilment and the company of those who truly cherish you.

If this year has taught me anything, it's that you mustn't sit back and wait for things to happen - Go out and grab your dreams by the scruff of the neck. And look after your split ends.

Last week I had the pleasure of visiting Liverpool's premier shopping centre, the open-air, contemporary Liverpool One complex. It lies in the heart of the city centre and is home to more than 160 stores, restaurants and bars. All of the usual high-street suspects play neighbours to more exclusive stores such as Fred Perry, Dr. Martens and the Harvey Nichols' food shop. Same goes for eateries: Visitors have a choice of Pizza Express, Zizzi's, Jamie's Italian, and the more upmarket Chaophraya and Palm Sugar. Quite simply, you're spoilt for choice.

We were put up by wonderful staff at Bridgestreet Apartments: Great hotel comfort but with more space and the sense that you're slap bang in the centre of all the action. As their motto goes, why stay in a hotel when you can stay in an apartment...Well why not indeed.

Festive fun comes courtesy of the numerous charms of Chavasse Park, a five-acre space opposite the main restaurant concourse. It plays host to an ice rink, a toboggan ride, the compulsory Santa's grotto, and my favourite of all, the pop-up Polar Bar where you can feast upon a plentitude of Christmassy beverages such as the Winter Crumble and the standard mulled wine.

The Clarins spa at John Lewis very kindly treated me to one of their legendary facials. As someone whose skincare routine is dictated by whatever is on offer at Superdrug, I was slightly apprehensive as to what to expect. But I'm pleased to report that it was rather splendid. A meticulously devised formula of massage, luxurious lotions and potions, and a relaxing, meditative soundtrack; both my face and mind felt rejuvinated. I was treated to the Detox Facial - 80 minutes of pure, unadulterated bliss - but any of the six types of facials would make for a great present this Christmas.

I cannot speak highly enough of Liverpool One as a shopping destination this christmas, and as a city in general: Heaps of spirit, a thriving independent culture and downright lovely people. And now that opening hours have been extended to 10pm, you can shop until your hearts are content.

Forced to spend an unprecedented six hours in Barnes & Noble following last month's bizarre snowstorms which engulfed part of the east coast of America, was made infinitely more bearable thanks to the fourth instalment of The Gentlewoman.

I especially enjoyed 'The Editors' which featured four fashion magazine matriarchs photographed on their daily Tube commutes.

I've said it before and I'm only too happy to say it again, The Gentlewoman is simply a breathtaking feat of the modern print media.

IFB Conference 7/9/2011

By happy coincidence, the IFB conference was on while I was in town. Rejoicing at the opportunity to ditch my travelling get-up in favour of a frock, I hotfooted it over to Milk Studios in the Meatpacking District.

One thing that surprised me was the focus on making money. Many of the Q&A sessions at the end of each discussion were dominated by members of the audience asking for advice on how to profit from their blogs. That's not to say that I'm wholely against monetisation; It was just saddening that many in attendance seemed to have lost sight of blogging about fashion simply for the fun of it.

Throughout the day I had several fangirl moments over Coco Rocha who was on the panel discussing the fine balancing act between business and blogging, and Indigo Clarke who I spotted in the audience sporting a cutesy polkadot number, both of them even more lovely in the flesh. I also glimpsed Nadia from FrouFrouu and Susie from Style Bubble. Not bad eh?

All in all, the Conference certainly provided me with some food for thought. While I was turned off by all the emphasis on monetisation, there were some useful pointers about making your blog as professional as it can be, which is a great ethos if you are treating it as a platform for your career.

This post is coming to you all the way from a sweltering New Jersey currently in the thrall of the dog days of summer. Nearly two weeks into the trip and so far, so good. Thus far, there's been a whole lot of marvelling at food portion sizes, extraordinary displays of patriotism and the astonishing frequency of commercial breaks. I am overjoyed to be in a land where nearly everyone is of a sunny disposition and I can pick up the September issue of American Vogue for just five bucks.

I spent today on a fruitless trawl of many a charity shop in the swankier part of town. All I stumbled across were comical knitting pattern catalogues from the Seventies complete with shots of bewildered blokes clad in cable knits and affros and, bizarrely, bumper packs of Tena Lady. Neither of which took my fancy.

Alas, my search for the perfect pleather is over. Part of Topshop's covetable Bavaria collection, it's the jacket of my dreams personified. I have high hopes for its versitility and stamina as it will be my only outerwear companion on my impending trip across America.

Elle Fanning - rising star and little sister of the ever-precocious Dakota Fanning. And now the face of Marc Jacobs' Fall 2011 campaign.

Maybe I'm simply an old hag jealous of a 13 year old but I'm just not convinced by this campaign. Granted, it's a visual feast but putting what is essentially a little girl in clothes designed for women seems like a bad marketing move in my (very humble) opinion. Will Marc Jacobs' traditional clientele be compelled to rush out and impulse purchase that grey long-hair coat, gorgeous though it is, upon seeing it swamping Elle's childish frame. I'm not so sure.

What do you think...Are you a prudish cynic like me? Or do you think casting Elle is a master stroke?

Followers, forgive me for I have sinned. I have been an awol blogger. My only defence is that my life is in a bewildering transition. Only a few weeks ago I was a relatively carefree Politics student whose most pressing concerns were securing a good spot in the library and scraping my way through my finals. But now here I am, a graduate with a maxed-out overdraft, an epic and fast-approaching trip across the USA to fund, and sorely lacking any grand plan as how to get myself one of those career things.

But I vow to change my ways and be a better blogger. And what better way to get me back into the swing of things than with these dreamy shots of Valentine.

I have incredibly exciting news. As you should know by now, I will shortly be graduating from university and be propelled into the big wide world as a fully fledged grown-up human being. In a vane bid to buck the trend, or rather just postpone the inevitable for as long as possible, come late August my boyfriend and I will be departing blighty for ten whole weeks of merry gallivanting across the pond. After dropping a whopping £500 on flights to New York last week, I've been talking about it incessantly ever since so thought I should quit chewing my family's ears off and share with you guys instead. The ever dilligent Chaz has concocted a bloody good itinerary which will take us on a whistle-stop tour all around the States.

While I've assured him I'm prepared to rough it and even invest in a practial pair of Vans, I think we both know I won't be able to abandon my obsessive sartorial ways.

Here are a few outfits I dreamed up for when we visit quaint plantation towns like Savannah and Charleston on the Southern leg of our jaunt or when we're indulging in a spot of thrift shopping in Salt Lake City.

I am beyond chuffed to have been featured in such a grown-up publication. Y'all know how much I adore Liverpool's vintage scene so this is a pretty good advert for it, if I say so myself!

Expect oodles of posts over the next few weeks. But not tonight I'm afraid pals, I'm making the most of my new-found freedom and going to a gig with my boy, hoping to kick my two-day hangover into touch once and for all.

Aminaka Wilmont was pretty special because it was my first experience of a professional catwalk show.

But sadly the collection itself left me feeling a little cold. I'm going to go out on a limb here and suggest they played it a little too safe this season, relying too much on those done to death shearling and boxy leather jacket trends. While there were some great individual pieces, I didn't quite get the styling of some of the outfits. The over-the-knee socks and trashy thigh-high boots completely detracted from the quality for me. I admire the tough grungy direction they've adopted this season but I don't think they quite managed to pull it off with this collection. I think that they are simply one of those designers whose stronger suit is spring/summer.

He's only bloody gone and done it again. I adored last season's offering from Charles Anastase and was a tad sceptical as to whether he could pull it out of the bag once again. But my oh my has he exceeded my expectations, earning him the honour of being my designer du jour. High praise indeed. I love the coherence of his collections, from one season to the next his designs consistently convey the Charles Anastase woman. Although that's not to say that his work is one-dimensional or stagnant, rather that he is slowly and brilliantly revealing the multiple faces of the definitive woman from his minds-eye, season by season. I also love the expert synthesis of French chic with London's edginess.

The A/W collection was largely composed of classic tailoring - double breasted coats and a-lines aplenty; traditional corduroy, tweed and velvet ; and a colour palette right up my street - burgundy, beige and black. My favourite individual piece has to be the red midi-length dress with the sweeping black horse print.

Well La-Dee-Da at LFW AW/11

So as you know, yesterday I merrily jaunted down to London to check out what all this fashion week fuss was about. The whole experience was surreal, exhilarating and insightful. Having blagged my way onto second row at the Aminaka Wilmont show, secured myself one of the freebie Mulberry tote bags, indulged in street-style-ogling galore and destroyed my poor unsuspecting feet tottering about on the lethal cobbles of Somerset House, I very reluctantly headed for home. Yep, it's a hard-knock life for us fashion bloggers.

While it seems highly unlikely that a career in fashion photography is beckoning me, I wanted to share the few pictures I snapped with y'all anyway.

Having been a bit quiet of late, I'm glad to see the ever lovely Kirsten Dunst is back with aplomb. I just had to share some of these whimsical images of her modelling for the Boy by Band of Outsiders Spring 2011 lookbook. Shot in a Californian botannical gardens, they make me long even more for those hazy transitional summer spring months when it would just be plain rude to do anything other than lounge around in parks tucking into picnics and soaking up the sunshine.

The collection's offering isn't too shabby either, with plenty of flimsy cotton dresses, pastel shades and preppy linen jackets and loafers. Kirsten was such a great choice of model because she has such a charming, understated style and you could easily see her donning such get-up as her everyday wardrobe.

Amy March sure has come a long way.

I finally got around to purchasing the Autumn/Winter 2010 issue of The Gentlewoman. With only two issues under its belt so far, this bi-annual bundle of sartorial and enlightening delicacies already has pride of place on my magazine shelf. Quite frankly, it shits on the other women's publications on the market. It's contemporary, internationally-minded, intellectually thoughtful and fiercely aspirational - A true celebration of the modern woman. I urge you not to waste your hard-earned pennies on trashy weeklies lacking in both content and integrity.

Serving suggestion: The Gentlewoman is best digested with a steaming cup of peppermint tea. A sumptuous detox combination.

Their charming slogan 'fashion with sprinkles on top' pretty much sums up their raison d'etre. It's a delightful go-to manual of sorts for the sophisticated young lady to indulge in her equally sophisticated interests like fashion, food and photography.

My week has been pretty traumatic. As usual my deadline cruelly crept up on me so this week has been spent staring out of the window seeking divine intervention to rescue my pitiful dissertation. But the lovely Sarah over at My Sentimental Heart cheered me up immensely by letting me know she'd passed a versatile blogger award onto me.

My nickname when I was a baby was 'the tank'. You can imagine why.
I have two false teeth. Never trust dentists.

In spite of my minor obesity problems when I was little, I managed to win a 'bonniest baby competition'. The judges were obviously wowed by my dazzling wit and intellect.

black swan - my humble opinion

As promised, here is my little review of Black Swan.

So last week I had the privilege of attending a preview screening especially for fashion bloggers, seeing as the film has a pretty strong fashion angle - The stunning ballet costumes were designed by sibling duo Rodarte and the terrifying transformation of Portman's character, Nina, is ever so subtly marked by changes in her personal style.

Black Swan is a provocative portrayal of someone teetering on the edge of a nervous breakdown and this is brilliantly conveyed to the viewer who will inevitably be on the edge of their seat and like Nina, unable to separate fantasy from reality. It will have you mulling it over in your mind for days after, a sign of a truly good film.

I very kindly took my boyfriend as my plus one but he in turn very kindly allowed me to crush his hand and hide behind him in some of the scarier scenes. If you're of a naturally nervous disposition, I suggest seeing it with someone who will be able to withstand you pouncing on them when the going gets tough.

Below is a short but sweet behind the scenes video featuring the Mulleavy sisters' thoughts on their first foray into film and Portman looking beautiful as ever.

It will be showing in a cinema near you TOMORROW. I highly advise you go see it.

I recently discovered 'Big Love' when a friend introduced me to it. I'm only up to season two but Chloe Sevigny's wardrobe is just amazing

You've mentioned you visited THE UK on a gap year. So which is better for high street shopping and thrifting - Australia or the UK?

Honestly I don't think Australia can compare to the UK in terms of high street stores. There are stores that I love, don't get me wrong, but with no Topshop or Zara it's pretty depressing. In terms of thrifting, both the UK and Australia are pretty amazing. That's what i love about thrifting so much, you can usually always find something you like as the clothes are so diverse

Which of your outfit photos do you think best represents your style?

I don't think I could narrow it down to just one photo unfortunately! My style is constantly changing and evolving so maybe my style is more like a collage of all my outfit pictures

I've been admiring this girl's styling skills for quite some time, having stumbled across her while writing 'Lookbook love' for Mint Magazine. And she hasn't disappointed me yet. She doesn't even seem to hit dry patches like the rest of us mere mortals who can spend hours executing a certain look yet still give the impression that we've been dragged through a tramp's wardrobe and then a hedge backwards.

Hailing from Sweden, Frida can certainly teach us a thing or two about dressing stylishly in spite of the cold. She's a truly eclectic dresser and has an enviable shoe collection to boot (see what I did there?!). All in all, a very worthy subject of this week's Sunday Style-Stalk.

Her blog not only showcases her everyday outfits but also her fashion designs. Pretty impressive hey?! I really like the slightly gothic vibe of her look. She successfully strikes that difficult harmony between high street and vintage, making her style attainable yet original.

And I've got some serious hair envy going on over her long luscious locks. As someone who has been a devotee of the bob style for the last five years, I've resolved to let my tresses grow until they can rival Rapunzel's. But to my great dismay I'm finding it's a slow dull process and I'm currently in that much feared no man's land between cropped and shoulder-length. Father Christmas kindly brought me this movie for being such a good girl last year.

After a tedious day reading about the rise of political lying for my dissertation, I needed something nice and chilled. So what better to turn to than The Big Chill.

It tells the story of what happens when you reunite with your old university pals, proving that real friendships stand the test of time. As I've been harping on about, I'm due to leave the relative sanctuary offered by the uni bubble in a mere six months time and this film has left me pondering the future of the friendships I've forged over the last time two and a half years. I sincerely hope our reunions will be as stylish and slick as that in The Big Chill. Although perhaps not as incestuous.

My only qualm with the plot is when Glenn Close's character encourages her husband to impregnate her childless friend in a bid to appease her own conscience following an affair. That's just a little bit too fucked-up for my liking. And if that means I'm a selfish friend then so be it.

All in all, I bloody loved it.

I'm one of those curious people who takes absolutely no joy in lounging around in my 'slouchy clothes'. While I can happily admit I enjoy the odd lazy day here and there, I always make sure that my hair is washed and straightened, my face is fully made up and my outfit is nothing less than my usual standard. Believe me I've tried the whole 'scraping my hair back, wearing tracksuit bottoms and my boyfriend's hoodie thing' but it just makes me feel miserable. So knowing full well that today would be spent staying indoors and working on my dissertation, I still wasted an hour and a half making myself look acceptable. Pretty weird right?! Although I have resolved to see this as an endearing personality quirk...

Yet this weekend the stars aligned when my dear mum spotted it on a shopping trip and snapped it right up on my behalf. Hurrah for mothers!

I've not really cared much for the shearling trend but I've struck a compromise with this faux sheepskin jacket because it does a pretty good job of pretending to be vintage.

These are a few snippets from a shoot the sensational Miss Sevigny has kindly done for Vice Style. I'm now seriously entertaining the idea of purchasing some Vans, which is a pretty big deal for me seeing as I haven't clad my feet in any sort of trainer since my rather unfortunate moshing days as a fifteen year old who should really have known better.

Vice Style is seriously under-rated as a source of cutting-edge sartorial goodness. I urge all of you dear readers to have a peruse of their stuff, in particular their fashion shoots. Hit up their site here for a cheap and cheerful fashion fix.

I also stumbled upon this interview Chloe did for Playboy which ignited a pretty amusing bitch fight on Twitter from Peaches Geldof who she succinctly described as "a girl who doesn't do anything but is just sort of around". Hurrah! And to think I believed that loving Chloe Sevigny any more was impossible. Anyway, the interview is definitely worth a gander at. The highlights are an insight into how she seduces lucky members of the male species and an admission that manly men totally trump contrived hipster guys. Once again, hurrah!

After a slightly hairy journey thanks to the pesky weather, I arrived home this weekend, back in the bosom of my family. So I've spent my week visiting dodgy pubs with old friends, slipping and sliding in the snow and Christmas shopping pretty much every day.

This is what I wore today. I bought the dress on a whim when I got a little bored buying presents for other people. It's a lovely burnt orange colour, very festive. I am positively pining for the snow to melt, I have so many nice shoes I want to wear out but all I've been donning the past few weeks are my wellies. Think less Glastonbury-chic and more Archers-shabby. So I have to admit I cheated a little in these photos and whacked on my trusty ankle boots instead.

My brain is well and truly in Christmas mode. This means that I'm consuming two times my normal amount of sweet treats and that all I want to do is curl up on the sofa with a steaming cup of hot chocolate in one hand and the telly remote in the other.

But until then I've been contenting myself with clip compilations a la 'The Best of Margot' courtesy of youtube.
